GOLD Group Talk

GOLD GROUP

The Getting On with Learning Difficulties (GOLD) project is for people with a learning difficulty in Thanet who receive under 5 hours of statutory support a week, live independently or with unpaid carers, and have no other support in place. GOLD is funded by the National Lottery.

The friendly GOLD team offers short-term, one-to-one confidential assistance to help individuals access and understand information. The project also provides weekly social groups and activities, and collaborates with like-minded organisations to help people with a learning difficulty engage in community projects, reduce social isolation, and live life to the full.

Sam Stone, one of our community advisors spoke about the charming history of Citizens Advice and how we helped people during the second world war. She also highlighted the types of issues we can help with now, the local areas we attend and how this applies to this client group.

The GOLD group is currently running a program on life skills so to assist this we provided a wealth of resources, print outs and helpful guides to budgeting so that he clients can live as independently as possible. Equipped with our contact points, outreach locations and with a friendly face, the GOLD group/ Mencap/ The support staff know where and how to find us for support. Our outreach project ensures that no matter who you are, where you come from, what issues you may face, we are here to provide quality independent advice.
