Canterbury Children’s Centre – Care Coordinators talk

We had recently been invited to speak to the care coordinators for Thanet and Canterbury areas at Canterbury children centre . The team are extremely knowledgeable, kind individuals who wanted to hear more on disability benefits for the various families they serve. They offer a variety of support from speech and physical therapy to neurodivergence.   I spoke about our outreach service in Thanet, supporting those in vulnerable positions across Thanet and how immigration status can play a role in the accessibility of benefits. We also discussed the difficulties that families with disabilities can have in accessing services and what we can do to minimize this issue with our home visit referral system.

Many families who have started new lives in the UK have difficulty navigating what they can or cannot claim due to the complexities of the benefit system. The Care coordinators at Canterbury CC picked our brains, discussed examples and interesting questions so we could better help them, to help the families who desperately need support.

We now have a direct connection with the team at the Children’s Centre to ensure they have the support they need, the detailed knowledge and the quality advice we can offer to create a well-rounded, informed service for those born and bred in the UK or for those that have come here to start a new life for their families
